After a frosty night and lots of rain, our planned program is delayed a bit as we want to explore Christchurch. Instead, we make ourselves comfortable in the campervan, read and blog. In the afternoon, we zoom off with the Lime scooters to the cathedral. The traces of the severe earthquake in 2011 are still clearly visible there. On foot, we visit the Lantern Festival, admire the artworks, stroll along the beautiful river in the city center, and enjoy the warm sun that now emerges. For the way back, we grab a scooter again and zoom back to the campsite at almost 30km/h. This is followed by a fantastic meal (homemade pizza with fresh basil) and a peaceful evening.
Now it's time: the last night in the campervan is over. Cleaning and tidying up follows. Ps: the color of the wastewater from the kitchen sink is Jucy-appropriate, violet (see photo!) 😉 Solution: beetroot juice makes it possible! Returning the campervan is a sad moment, but we will still stay 2 nights in the Jucy Snooze, the hostel of Jucy. After covering 4400km in 35 days in Australia, to our surprise, we covered 4900km in 32 days in New Zealand (North Island: 2500, South Island: 2400).
After getting up, we go for brunch to a café around the corner. Then we pack our bags, enjoy the sunny day on the hostel's veranda, and start the evening with a beer and a healthy vegetable dip. There is one last homemade dinner before we leave New Zealand for Singapore tomorrow.
