The old town of Kathmandu

Full of enthusiasm, we went for breakfast. It was our first Italian breakfast. Today we should get used to the fact that there is only powdered coffee, lots of eggs that are properly spicy, and potatoes that are served with every breakfast here.

We discovered that there must be a Nepal-wide competition among waiters to quickly, if possible directly from the mouth, take away the plates, cups, and glasses from the guests. A few times our plates with our food were simply cleared away. We would have loved to eat more. The food here is really delicious.

Strengthened, we hit the road. There was a festival in Kathmandu that day, and it felt like the whole city was passing our hotel on the way to the city center. So we joined in and walked behind the crowd. Immediately a friendly Nepalese man approached us. He explained that it was a festival for the rain god and that we should walk with them. He was also kind enough to explain many other things to us, including the fact that he was actually an art student and just wanted to improve his English with us. But when we reached a police barricade and a policeman spoke to him, he suddenly became less talkative and preferred to leave. The policeman then talked to him for a while. The man didn't look so happy anymore.

We continued walking towards the city center and arrived at a square with many temples. There were performances by drum and other dance groups.

We let ourselves be carried away by the crowd and took the opportunity to visit all the temples in the old town. It was only a few days later that we found out why the very friendly-looking Nepalese man who appeared next to us several times in a kind of uniform always followed us. Apparently, we would have had to pay admission to enter these temples. Eventually, the cashier just waved us off and gave up.

Since it was already quite late, we just went to our hotel and ate and rested.
