The travel guides are all right:
1. Get up early. The tour bus picked me up at exactly 5 o'clock, picked up some other tourists in town, and off we went up to 4300 meters.
2. Yes, seeing the geysers with your own eyes and hearing them rumble is truly spectacular. After sunrise, except for one, this natural spectacle disappears.
Tips from the guide: DO NOT touch the water! It is supposed to be 86 degrees hot. I didn't want to check that either;-)
3. Layering clothes is really necessary. It was icy cold up there!! No worries, there was still a thermal bath on the agenda. Ooh la la, changing clothes = cold. Water warm = great. Getting out of the water = freezing cold!! Get back into the warm bus as soon as possible.
The program also included breakfast and where tourists are, there are also seagulls. I really didn't think there were seagulls "up there".
On the way back, I could only see and take pictures of the alpacas from the bus. We made a stopover at the flamingos. In the morning, they were still pink - I swear!
All in all, worth seeing and experiencing!
So, tomorrow is departure and onward journey. In two sections: First to Calama and from there to Vallenar - and it's another overnight trip.
You will probably only hear from me on Saturday.
