Today, the alarm clock rang a little earlier than usual...even very early, to be precise at 5:30 am 😳🙈 We then made our way to the Fushimi Inari Shrine. This is the main shrine of about one-third of all Inari shrines in Japan. With its construction year of 708, it is also one of the oldest in Japan. The path to the shrine is lined with thousands of red torii gates ⛩, which are donations from individuals, families, or companies. The 4km ascent to the shrine was very exhausting...considering the 80% humidity alongside the 33 degrees Celsius that prevailed already at 7:00 am.
Around noon, we visited the Nishiki Market in the city center. This market is about 1 km long and offers all kinds of Japanese specialties. From fresh fish, seafood, and vegetables to finger food and sweets, there is something for every taste. 🍜🍣🍙🍢
The To-ji Temple marked the end. With its 57m, it is the largest pagoda (memorial site for enlightened Buddhists) in all of Japan. 🎌
