Dimapur - Nagaland
So I left my idyll in the countryside, said goodbye to my new friend the cook, who barely understood a word of English and I didn't know Hindi, and had Arut take me to the ferry. Then I took the ferry, left Majuli behind me with good memories, and after a good 90 minutes, I reached Nimali Ghat again. Here, it was easy and quick to continue to the train station in Jorhat, which was 20 km away. My train had already arrived at the station when I arrived and was getting ready to return to Guwahati. While enjoying a few samosas and a chai, I was able to witness the locomotive coupling live.
The monster rolled slowly, making a deafening engine noise and constantly honking. It's not like this horn reaches 375 decibels, I'm just exaggerating here, or maybe not! *Laughs!*
The train then started moving super punctually and arrived in Dimapur on the dot after a pleasant journey. When the train came to a stop, someone outside and I from the inside tried to open the door. Suddenly it flew open and I saw a huge crowd of people, who immediately started moving, and the first person started climbing the stairs and already put their foot in. But now it was my turn, we all learned in school to let others out first before going in. So, equipped with all my strength, with the big backpack behind and the small one in front, I pushed myself up, causing the first person to take three steps backward for now.
When I left the train station, I immediately got into the first tuk-tuk which could only start moving after about 10 minutes, as the knot of cars, scooters, trucks, and tuk-tuks had to be untangled first. My guesthouse was located in a very quiet and clean neighborhood of Dimapur.
Dimapur itself doesn't have many interesting things to offer, the next day I just strolled to the "Kachari Ruins" and then visited a nice market where there were again many things to discover, some fruits and vegetables that I had never seen before. It quickly became clear that snake, fish, pork, silkworms, frogs, and even dog were on the menu here. No thanks, I preferred to stick to rice, vegetables, and possibly chicken.
