On Friday afternoon, right after work, we drove southwards via the Axenstrasse and through the Gotthard tunnel to Lake Maggiore in Monvalle.
On the small Camping Lido di Monvalle, we found a nice spot almost by the water. Thanks to a pizzeria right on site, our vacation started off great. 🍕🍝🍷🇮🇹
The next morning, we had breakfast overlooking the lake, then we visited the Santa Caterina del Sasso monastery in Leggiuno, which is considered one of the most famous landmarks of Lake Maggiore.
Unfortunately, the weather forecasts weren't as good. Instead of going directly to the Ligurian coast as planned, we took a detour to Asti in Piedmont.
The campsite in Asti was located a bit outside the city. Therefore, we took our bikes to the nearby city center and strolled through the pedestrian zone. What we didn't know beforehand was that a festival was taking place. There were many food and market stalls, people dressed in medieval costumes, jugglers, flag swingers, and trumpet players provided entertainment. It was a great atmosphere and the city was alive! This side trip was really worth it! 😝👍
