Since breakfast at the hotel didn't sound very promising, we set off early in search of a truly French breakfast. Espresso, cafe au lait, croissant and pain au chocolat, simply fantastic.
During our walk afterwards, we caught a whiff of fish, so as two detectives, we felt compelled to investigate the reason behind it. And behold: a market hall with everything our hearts desire, fresh fruits and vegetables, oysters, fish, mussels, cheese, everything we love about France. Afterwards, we took a quick look at the famous Rouen Cathedral. Yes, it is truly impressive. (Even Kevin was fascinated and he is really not into churches)
Now we continue to Honfleur. Old town, painters, boats, harbor. Very charming but also very touristy. Nevertheless, we tried our first original cider here.
On the way to Bayeux, we made a stop at the famous Juno Beach. A queasy feeling to walk past old weapons, trenches and memorial plaques. We read about the history of D-Day again on the drive, it is quite an emotional experience to see it in person as well.
Normandy is known for its 3 C's: Camembert, Calvados, and Cider.
Only a Camembert that is truly made in the French region of Normandy can be called Camembert de Normandie. We tried it, delicious.
Cider: tested and approved.
We decided to stay away from Calvados.
In the evening, we arrived at our small but nice hotel in Bayeux. Here too, we explored the city on foot and then leisurely ended the day with Chardonnay, foie gras, tartare, and steak. As a crowning finale, Svenja had a top-notch moulleaux au chocolat :-)
