Brisbane is more beautiful than we thought, which is certainly due to our expectations. The comments about Brisbane have always been rather modest, so we were positively surprised in the end. In the case of Sydney, the opposite happened to us a bit because everyone praised the city so highly. It's an interesting city, but we didn't find it extraordinary. Melbourne is our favorite city in Australia. Why? Well, the people were incredibly friendly and helpful, even more so than the already very friendly and open average Australian. The city center itself has a more pleasant atmosphere with its alleys, bars, cafes, and street art.
Well, back to Brisbane. We took it easy and took fewer photos. We already feel like locals 😉 We strolled along the river, explored the city center, and ate sushi at one of the countless sushi bars. We really liked the Gallery of Modern Art and the subtropical park. Oh, and we went to the hair salon ☺ thanks to a short fringe, I can see easily again, and David's wool was shorn.
Among the animal inhabitants of Brisbane, we particularly noticed new lizards and flying foxes. You can find these charming flying foxes in trees, especially at dusk, including on main roads and in parks. They feed on berries and often quarrel with each other. Because of their fox-like face, they are also called flying foxes here. When they spread their wings, they have an impressive size. The European bat can't compete with that... because the flying foxes fly so fast, it is difficult to take pictures of them in flight, especially in the twilight...
So far, the hostel here is by far the best. Lively but relaxed. The veranda invites you to linger, we have a drink or two here and longingly think about another trip to Australia. The two months here were fantastic and definitely too short. There is still so much to see. We don't know when, but someday we want to come back. So for now, adios Australia, hasta la proxima, until next time ✌😚
Our last 3 days in Australia were spent in Brisbane, the capital of Queensland, from where we will catch our flight to New Zealand. We spent the days quite relaxed. On the first day, we explored the city center, the riverbank, and a park with subtropical vegetation.
The center of Brisbane is similar to Melbourne or Sydney, a mix of skyscrapers and low buildings with streets full of tourists. The most beautiful part of the city is a section of the riverbank called Southbank, which is lined with trees and includes an artificial beach. The visit to the subtropical park is also highly recommended, as you can see a multitude of flowers and trees. There are also animals like iguanas and flying foxes, a species of giant bats that fortunately do not feed on blood, but eat fruits. They are also much cuter. Apparently, there is quite a controversy surrounding these animals, as on the one hand, they are very beneficial for the subtropical forest, but on the other hand, they are carriers of a deadly disease if there is direct contact with them.
On the second day, we visited the Gallery of Modern Art, which is free and has some interesting things, ranging from large sculptures to paintings and multimedia content. We also took this day to get our hair cut together :).
The hostel where we stayed is very nice and quiet, and we spent the evening on its terrace, which offers a good view of the city.
It seems like yesterday when we started traveling around Australia, and now we have to leave with the feeling of having missed out on many places in the country. I don't know when, but we have to come back here!!
