Today we continued to our next destination, which is Koh Phangan Island in the south of Thailand. To get there, we had a journey of almost 24 hours ahead of us. We started from the bus station in Kanchanaburi towards Nakhon Pathon. However, the bus did not directly go to the train station, so it dropped us off on a six-lane highway, from where we took a taxi to the train station. From there, we continued for 10 hours on the night train. For this, we had booked two beds in the second class. In the night train, there are two beds on top of each other. The upper bed is narrower and has no windows. The lower bed offers more comfort in terms of width, access, and view. Additionally, the lower bed can be converted into seats. We had two upper beds. We do not know if these are cheaper than the lower ones. However, you must not be claustrophobic here. In comparison, the Galaxy pods where we stayed in Singapore are true space wasters.
The 10-hour journey was quite comfortable, at least the beds were long enough to stretch out. However, a proper restful sleep was out of the question.
We would not have starved during the journey either, as someone passed by with food and drinks every few minutes until bedtime (around 10 p.m.).
After the train ride, we arrived in Suran Thani around 5 a.m., where we had to wait for 3 hours until we could take the bus to the ferry. With the ferry, we continued for another 1.5 hours, partly with rough seas due to a thunderstorm, until we reached Koh Phangan. Finally, we arrived at our destination and finally at the sea. :)
