Yesterday we checked out of our hostel at 9:00 am, and our nice Uber driver took us to the camper van rental station. After a brief shock that he couldn't find the specified address, we were amazed when we received our new travel companion, whom we nicknamed 'Big Mike,' and zoomed off on what felt like the wrong side of the road.
Our first stop was the harbor in Cairns, as I managed to leave something on the ship 🤦♀️. Then we continued to the Rusty Market in Cairns, where we bought fresh fruits and vegetables for the rest of the journey. With everything packed, we set off in Big Mike towards Brisbane in the south!
Our route takes us along the coast, passing numerous sugar cane fields and banana plantations. For our afternoon melon snack, we chose a beautiful beach, but unfortunately, swimming is not possible due to crocodiles and jellyfish spoiling the fun.
When we arrived at the first campsite, we checked everything out, got some drinks, and after some hard work that made sweat drip down our faces, we set up Mones' sleeping place 🙈😅. It can't be that difficult to lower a table.... After that, we definitely deserved our ciders 😉
Today we decided to explore the Josephine Falls, which were 50 minutes in the wrong direction but turned out to be a great decision as the small lagoon and waterfall provided a great cooling off from the tropical 34°C that we had today.
Next, we went to a skywalk in a rainforest or tropical forest. We need to google the difference between a rainforest, tropical forest, and jungle, or does anyone know?
It was also pretty cool, we didn't imagine Australia to be so green and colorful. We always have images of the red desert or the beach in mind, so the rainforest was definitely not high on our list, but it's always great to be surprised!
Our next 3 days will be spent in Mission Beach, which was highly recommended to us as a youthful city. The campsite, about 20 meters from the beach, is already great!
We're now treating ourselves to one or two glasses of wine and planning the next few days in Down Under Mission Beach
