After Surfers Paradise, we took the bus to Brisbane. The seat next to me was reserved, a young man sat next to me and we started talking in English until we reached the point where we asked each other where we come from. Both from Germany. The trip to Brisbane passed quickly as we talked about our travel plans.
Arriving in Brisbane, we checked into the hostel and settled into our rooms. Then we took a little walk around Brisbane. In the evening, we cooked with a few people from the group and played cards.
The next day, we woke up early and went to Australia Zoo, Steve Irwin's Australia Zoo. Unfortunately, it rained there, but we were still able to see the animals in the zoo.
Back in Brisbane, I met up with my German seatmate and spoke German again in a direct conversation after a week of speaking English.
On Wednesday (18.01.), we headed towards Rainbow Beach - 5 hours on the bus. On Thursday, we drove to Fraser Island with 4x4 Jeeps. Fraser Island is an island entirely made of sand with beautiful nature and dingos. Besides dingos, we also saw some spiders. We camped on Fraser Island. Camping with 20 women, spiders, and horseflies was definitely a different experience 😂 Sleeping on sleeping mats and using portable toilets - a dream, but I survived. At night, we were occasionally woken up by the screaming neighbors, it was definitely amusing. The island is truly a dream, my highlights were definitely the free-roaming dingos and Lake McKenzie.
After three days and two nights, we have now arrived back on the mainland. On 22.01., we were able to feed wild dolphins in the morning, then we went kayaking with turtles and now we are embarking on a 16-hour bus ride to Airlie Beach. Send me strength and endurance 🙄
