Day 13: from Legnica (Liegnitz) to Olawa (Ohlau)

Rakabudiswa: 08.06.2024

Today is obviously summer 2024. 25 degrees, sunshine, but light to gusty east winds - the Westphalian always finds something to complain about.

It is quite flat, with endless grain fields accompanying us.

Break
And there are also fantastic cycle paths; and many helpful Poles. Whether we need a toilet or are thirsty (I mean, how many liters does your car use per 100km...) and there doesn't seem to be a shop anywhere nearby - we always meet friendly, helpful people who even give us free juice.
Great bike paths, endless fields
A helper on the way

Wroclaw is a very beautiful city and, like Liegnitz, has a very good infrastructure for cyclists along the main roads (by the way, I forgot to mention it in the small print, there are no gender stars and other linguistic distortions in this blog; if you, dear reader, don't like this, you will still have to live with it if you continue reading :-) )

Old Town of Wroclaw

The old town has a wonderful charm and is vibrant. Tourists come from all over the world. The cathedral and other buildings are part of the world cultural heritage.

Wroclaw - Market

And the world is, as we all know, small: we bumped into a former work colleague (and now retiree) in Wroclaw.

By chance we meet a former work colleague in Wroclaw

In the old socialist tradition, every town here has its satellites with high-rise prefabricated buildings. After the fall of the Berlin Wall, these were renovated many times and given a new color. In real existing socialism, however, dreary gray was the order of the day. Contrary to rumors to the contrary, the rental contract was not called a "prefabricated building contract."

A sentence from a nun in East Berlin shortly after the fall of the Berlin Wall keeps coming to mind: "Look at these houses, how dilapidated they are - that's exactly how the government treated the people!"

Socialist housing, but at least embellished with color

We set up camp 30km away in Olawa (Ohlau) in the former Joseph's Foundation and current hotel. Football fans will certainly be familiar with this city, as Moto-Jelzc Olawa plays in the 2nd Polish League (West).
