On Friday, July 5th, we set off for Napier as we had a potential au pair job and wanted to meet the family. We drove all day and by evening, it was too late to meet the family until Saturday. Nicole (the host mother) didn't contact us at all during the day on Saturday, which didn't give us much hope. In the evening, she messaged us saying that she had given the job to someone else. So we drove the whole day for nothing.
On Saturday, we applied for a hotel in Napier and explored the city and the beautiful black beach. To end the evening nicely, we went out for burgers 😊.
It was so noisy at night because some idiots decided to blast music in their car 🙄
On Sunday, we started the day with breakfast and a beer, sitting in front of our car by the promenade and enjoying the beautiful weather. In the meantime, our neighbor Tanja came and told us that she immigrated from Germany to New Zealand 20 years ago and how her life has changed. She gave us her phone number and said that if we are in the Whanganui area, we should contact her and she will invite us for a meal 😍
Shortly after, an old man with a dog approached us and we had a little chat. He then invited us to his house in Napier for a cup of coffee. We thanked him but we didn't take up the offer. 😅
Around 3pm, we headed towards the city. We rented an electric scooter and rolled along the beach. Like wild ones 😅
In the evening, we went to a swimming pool with hot whirlpools and relaxed 😌
Tomorrow (Monday), we plan to effectively look for jobs in the city.
Napier is really worth a visit. Just the kilometer-long black sandy beach with the meter-high waves 🌊.
