6.1. The rainy season has caught up with us. Storm and rain all night and in the morning it pours and dark clouds from Moorea are moving over. In search of something to eat, we stroll towards the harbor. It's Sunday, all shops are closed. But why the restaurants? We find the 'Retro' at the harbor. There is pasta, it's already too late for breakfast. Pasta with salmon costs €23. Quite expensive for a street restaurant. A beer costs €7. Prices, like in Toulouse.😋 Occasionally it pours again and at 29 degrees it feels like a sauna. And that's exactly how we sweat.😉 We continue to stroll along the harbor, but nothing else is open. We go back to the apartment, wash two loads of laundry and watch the lousy weather from inside. We book a rental car so we can go on a tour tomorrow.
7.1. For breakfast we have fresh baguettes and croissants. At 10:30 am we pick up the rental car and our tour around the island begins. It's raining at the Point Venus lighthouse. But after 5 minutes we can get out and take photos. At Papeeno Beach there are nice waves and many surfers lurking in the water. Then we continue to Trou du Souffleur de Arahoho (blowhole with great effect) and the Farumai waterfall. Then we go to Plage de Maui (Number 1 on Tahiti according to the internet. I'm dead serious, the beach is a joke) and then to Teahupoo. A surfing spot. But at this time of year there is nothing going on here, there are no 8 meter high waves now. Next stop is the Vaipahi water garden. Small but nice. It's raining, but we have umbrellas with us. Then we go to Tahuruu beach, where I've been before about 18 years ago. I can only remember that it was beautiful, big and black. It's still like that today.😄 Along the way, all restaurants are closed. Day off on Monday? Only in Papeete do we find a pizzeria and eat there. Then Monday is already over.
8.1. We leave at 9:15 am for the ferry to Moorea. Yesterday we bought a ticket for 'tomorrow', we thought. Unfortunately, it's valid for tomorrow, 9.1. But we're already flying on that day. What a mess! One moment of not paying attention and it all goes wrong. In our defense: we have lost sight of the date.😇 Unfortunately, the ferry is full today and we have to rearrange our plans. We go to the west coast, where we missed a few things yesterday. First stop at the Marina of F'aa. And right away a great surprise: there are corals and colorful fish everywhere on the pontoons. Very easy to watch. The marina is large and the ships come from all over the world. The most impressive one is the Hemisphere, the largest sailing catamaran in the world. Cheap to charter for $280,000 a week.🤑 It's raining on Moorea right now and we're sitting here in the sun. We visit 3 more beaches, go swimming and visit the Maraa caves. Dinner is at the Roulottes at the harbor. Apart from the morning annoyance, it's been a very nice day after all.
9.1. We return the key at 9 am and drive to the airport. On to Bora Bora.
