It's been a long time since my parents, brothers, and I took a family vacation. That's why we wanted to spend 3 days in the Bavarian Forest this year.
So on Sunday morning, we drove to the treetop walkway in the forest. I've been here a few years ago with my friend. You can walk on elevated walkways at the height of the treetops and look at the Bavarian Forest from above. Unfortunately, it was quite cold and foggy, and the visibility was not the best. Since the path is not very long, we also visited the illusions below and went into the upside-down house. It's a house that was built completely upside down. But not only upside down, but also crooked. I felt a bit sick.
Then we drove to Lohberg, where we would spend the night, and went to the local zoo. It is the smallest zoo in Bavaria and it has all the animals that are native to or used to live in the Bavarian Forest, including reindeer. Unfortunately, the weather was not great, it kept raining. After seeing all the animals, we went to the hotel, had dinner, and watched the Champions League final. Bayern won.
The next day, after a hearty breakfast, we went hiking. We started from the hotel and passed beautiful waterfalls on our way to the small Arbersee. After circling around it, we hiked up to the big Arber, but not all the way to the summit. That would have been another 6 km, and we were already well served with 16 km. We had a lunch break at a hut, and surprisingly, we bumped into acquaintances from the neighboring village. The world is small. Then I got cold because I had sweat while hiking and it was cloudy and cool again today. Now we went downhill on pretty paths through the forest. Somewhere along the way, we were supposed to come across a viewpoint over the Lamer Winkel, but despite intensive searching, we couldn't find a good view. In the late afternoon, we arrived back at the hotel, exhausted, and went for a swim in the pool. The water was quite cool, but perfect for swimming. In the evening, we had dinner in Lohberg and briefly explored the small town - although there wasn't much to see. However, the surrounding area is very beautiful!
On Tuesday, after breakfast, we went hiking again. We drove a few adventurous kilometers - Dad was already slightly annoyed - to the Osser. We wanted to hike to its summit, which wasn't far anymore. Today it was very sunny and warm. So we hiked to the peaks of the small and big Osser, and the last few meters were just rocks, so I had to use my hands. Very cool! And then we walked through a heath. Pure nature! With a view of the Bavarian Forest and partly Czech Republic. Somewhere there was a mountain hut where we all had a beer before starting the descent again.
Now we continued to Arrach. There is a distillery with a museum and a shop. We had some food, tried many spirits, and did some shopping. Then our vacation came to an end and we drove home for 2.5 hours. It was beautiful.
