Adventure in the Outback

Lofalitsidwa: 25.07.2018

Now we say goodbye to coastal life and dive into the West Australian Outback, driving along the North West Costel Highway then turning left onto the Nanutarra Wittenoom Road to Tom Price, a small mining town surrounded by red sand and rocks. After setting up our trailer tent in 5 minutes (yeah, we're getting faster!), we embarked on an adventurous off-road tour to Mount Nemaless for sunset. This one was different, not overlooking the ocean but the red rock landscape, yet still spectacular!!!

Next, we visited the Rio Tinto iron ore mine, it was very dusty but interesting.....

But now onwards to Karijini National Park, where the rock formations grew bigger and there were massive gorges with waterfalls and pools in between. We had to conquer these 'Gorges' called canyons, of course. The water reflecting the towering red cliffs and the lush greenery was stunning and magical. Luckily, we could cool off in the pools, a huge delight for our water nymphs, as the heat down there was almost unbearable!!!

After three days of hiking, climbing, splashing, and swimming, our journey took us to Broome. This leg is our longest drive in one go, with endless straight roads, sometimes more than 20 km without a curve. Our girls kept asking: 'are we there yet?' and were amazed by the huge road trains with up to 4 trailers. After two days and about 650 km, we arrived at our destination. The small town on the Indian Ocean was quite lively, and we could finally enjoy a thorough swim at the legendary Cable Beach. Then came the unpacking and cleaning of the Landy and trailer. A very hot affair in 35°C shade. After two hours at the car wash, not only our vehicles but also we were soaked....

Wow, after 5 weeks of trailer tent, beach, mega adventures, experiences, and the Outback, now back to a hotel with all the bells and whistles, we have to admit that we need to get used to it again.....and with heavy hearts, we now have to say goodbye to Western Australia!
