Beach at Padre Island

E phatlaladitšwe: 17.07.2017

So, we left Dalles on Thursday and continued to San Antonio. Arriving there, the nice hotel chauffeur Alexander welcomed us with interest and enthusiasm. Nice guy. We have our own fenced parking lot here, we are on a first-name basis with the night security service, and we were even allowed to stay in the pool until 04:00 in the morning (instead of the usual 22:00 pool closing time). Wonderful.

They also have cool pickups in San Antonio. Here's my favorite. Ford Raptor - awesome blue.

As I said, on Friday evening we had the pool to ourselves until 04:00. Then we went back to the room,

and at 09:00 we want to start to Padre Island, a beach area that is a 2 1/2-hour drive away.

Arriving there; Incredible! Padre Island and Mustang Island are narrow, elongated barrier islands.

Here you drive DIRECTLY onto the beach with your car, park, open the tailgate, put a towel in front of it, and bingo. Insane.

Arrived, of course, we went straight into the water. Then the first shock. I have never experienced a sea (Gulf of Mexico) that is sooo warm. The outside temperature was about 36 degrees Celsius, and the water was not colder than 30 degrees Celsius - unbelievable. No blue lips after 30 minutes and Mom excitedly standing under the umbrella shouting, 'Get out of the water, Mommy is cold.'
Then I remembered my own childhood and buried myself/sank into the sand standing up, so that it is difficult to get out again and/or you can sway without falling. My colleagues apparently didn't know the classic and were quickly encouraged to try.

But Vadim topped it all - wonderful. :-)

After this wonderful day, the inevitable return journey. And on the way, a few clouds started to gather. It looks different from what we're used to,

I even see an angry face in the darkening cloud,
and it feels different as well.
We were lucky. If we had left 5 minutes later, we would have been right in the middle of it. So we only experienced the outer edge, but even that was enough to cause some involuntary lane changes on the highway. The swaying reminded me a bit of the outbound flight.
A cool day comes to an end, lots of experiences, lots of sights, lots of fun. Tomorrow on Sunday we'll go downtown to San Antonio. Overall, we all like San Antonio better. The climate is more pleasant here; 2 degrees 'cooler' and less humidity. We also like the cityscape better than Dallas. So tomorrow, more details.
