The gateway to the Highlands

Publisert: 26.05.2019

Unfortunately, there was no blog post yesterday. This was mainly because we were busy all evening.

While waiting for our table at the restaurant, we met a super nice couple from the USA, with whom we had a great conversation all evening. Maxi even did a small whisky tasting with Kevin :)

Food-wise, Oban was outstanding! For lunch, we had a seafood platter for two at a small hut right by the harbor. Here, the chef still cooks the fish himself on a camping stove. Without exaggerating, these were undoubtedly the best seafood we have ever had! Straight from the sea to the pan, it couldn't get any better!!

Unfortunately, we only saw Oban in pouring rain, which is normal for Scottish standards, but the small harbor town with its bars, restaurants, and small shops would have been even more beautiful in good weather.

Of course, we also visited the Oban Distillery, which is located in the heart of the city.

A road trip is always the best way to get to know the locals, which is why our evening yesterday ended in a pub with live music - a traditional way to end the day...

Conclusion: Oban is a great little city that deserves more time - maybe next time...

This morning, we continued our journey to the north - more precisely to Blair Castle.

Today, the Highland Games took place there. Traditionally, we were able to watch disciplines such as dance, sprint, hammerthrow, and bagpipe playing. The formations of Scottish men, accompanied by bagpipes and drums, gave everyone present goosebumps.

On the way there, we visited the Blair Athol Distillery and the Dewars Distillery. Our Fiat 500 is slowly turning into an exceptionally well-stocked whisky bar :)

Not to be forgotten is the world-famous salmon ladder at the Pückenhühn Dam (the name comes from M. Schneider's memory protocol), a spectacle for young and old.

Our accommodation today in Grandtown-in-Spey (Speyside) is really amazing!

We are staying in an old mansion from 1881 that has been lovingly restored.

Pictures will follow tomorrow, if we survive the Highland hike!

Until tomorrow and greetings

MAXI & VERENA
