04/06/2024: We were a little excited and curious this morning; after all, we had never been to Turkey before. Everything went smoothly: crossing the border; getting a Turkish SIM card (turkcell) and withdrawing money. Right from the start, we were able to immerse ourselves in everyday Turkish life: in Kesan we suddenly find ourselves in the middle of a large market/bazaar, the muezzin's call to prayer resounds, there is a crowd and shoveling between the stalls with shoes, underwear, shirts, fish or vegetables... then we drive on the Canakkale motorway bridge, which is said to be the longest suspension bridge in the world, to the Lapseki district. There we park on the edge of the not yet fully completed national garden right on the strait, which is part of a larger coastal project. You can feel the idea behind it: recreational space for people, playgrounds and various sports fields; meeting space with cafes and libraries... the atmosphere is very peaceful and relaxed.
