Wow, it's almost time and we still can't really imagine that we will soon be sitting on a plane and flying to the other side of the world. We have been planning our little four-month adventure for a long time, and a glance at our countdown app reveals: Only about 11 hours left and we're in the air... and above all, we have to be on the train to Cologne in just 6 hours. Some might think that it might, under certain circumstances, be better to go to bed a little earlier. But what would such a journey be without planning, packing, unpacking, and occasionally taking a short break until the last second?
Of course, we saved the packing until the very last moment (who doesn't enjoy packing in the middle of the night?). So first of all, put everything on the bed and get an overview. In the past few weeks, we have acquired a basic stock of outdoor gear and were now faced with the great challenge of organizing it all reasonably well in two large and two small backpacks. The bed was now hardly recognizable (as can be seen in the above picture, good or rather not so good) and doubts arose: Does all this really fit in the backpacks? We don't have the smallest ones. Both trekking backpacks hold 65 + 5 liters, and the small ones 22 (red) and 32 liters (gray), so actually more than enough. And indeed, thanks to our miracle weapon called vacuum bags, everything fits wonderfully in the backpacks (note the great photo with the big backpacks). There will even be some room left for gifts ;) Then the next test: the scale. And here too, there was the all-clear. The large backpacks weigh 9.9 and 10.3 kg, and the small ones 5.5 and 6.0 kg (measurement inaccuracies due to the great Lidl scale were estimated at a maximum of +/- 1 kg).
Now there is only the hope that we will always be able to stow everything away so nicely during the journey...
So, now we're both exhausted from the day and only have a few small tasks to do before we fall into bed. The alarm clock will ring tomorrow much too early for our taste, but those who want to travel gladly do without their beauty sleep (which, according to Tobi, he doesn't need, of course :P). We will get in touch as soon as we have landed.
See you soon
