The first days in my host family

Diterbitkan: 26.07.2016

After my flight from NYC to Chicago was continually delayed and I spent 7 hours at the airport, I was finally able to board the plane at 11. Then we had to wait for about half an hour due to a storm in Chicago before we could take off. After almost two hours of flying, we had to wait for another hour in Chicago before we could get to the gate. When we arrived, my luggage arrived fairly quickly and fortunately all accounted for, and I was picked up by my host mother. Since it was so late, I was allowed to sleep in the next day. When I entered my room, there were pictures on the wall that the children had made for me, and the next evening I received cupcakes.

From then on, there was hardly any break. The family is really great, but there is also a lot to do here. And at the moment, it's a bit too much for me, but everything will work out in time. The children are really sweet and the parents are really nice and they help me to find my way around here.

The day before yesterday, I drove a car for the first time here, which is not as easy as I thought :D Also, I went shopping with my host mother. The supermarkets here are four times as big as ours, and when you walk in, you see towers and towers of fruits and vegetables and things that I couldn't identify yet :D There are no one liter milk cartons. It starts with a small jug of four liters.

Today, I went to the library with the current au pair and the kids, and as expected in America, it is simply huge, even though we only live in a small town :D
