At 9.30 a.m. my alarm clock called Andi goes off: 'Hey man, it's time to wake up'. We have to leave because today we're already heading from Niagara to Maynooth in the Algonquin National Park, which is 370km away. Actually in the middle of nowhere.
And so at 10.30 we start our Charger and drive north again towards Toronto. Today too, there's a lot of traffic - sometimes 10 lanes full of cars and trucks. However, with every meter we get closer to the northwest, the fewer there are on the road.
And so suddenly we are alone among forests and small lakes. Just like you imagine Canada. The road gets narrower and narrower until we find the parking lot of the Eco-Lodge on a forest path. We pack our stuff and start walking. According to the signs, it's about a 20-minute walk to the lodge from there. Small warning: Watch out for mosquitoes. We start walking and realize it's going to be a fun 20 minutes. Within the first 100m, countless mosquitoes attack us. Despite wild defense attempts, we can hardly count the bites. A brisk walk is probably an understatement. If someone had filmed us, we would probably be in the top 10 on YouTube.
After climbing the last hill, we stand in front of the lodge. Finally. We enter it happily and are immediately greeted. In general, the organization of the lodge is similar to that of an SAC hut. Cozy, familiar, and in the middle of nowhere. There is no reception or WiFi. That means complete radio silence - hard to believe.
During dinner, we also get to know some of the other guests. Once again Australians and English people - just like the mosquitoes, they are everywhere ;)
At the end of the day, we treat ourselves to a bath in the self-built hot pot. Relaxed (but bitten), we finally go to bed. Next time, don't forget the insect spray...
