Hi guys,
We had booked a 10-day bus ticket from Foz de Iguacu to Rio de Janeiro in advance. So we had plenty of time until Schore (Uncle) comes to visit us in Brazil on 13.09.16. To bridge the time with as little money as possible, we decided on a Workaway option. The internet platform 'Workaway' offers travelers the opportunity to help with various jobs in exchange for free accommodation with the hosts, for example in hostels, schools, or in our case, in the garden. We were taken in by Yam, who has been trying to establish a cultural center in Marica (his hometown) for two years. He and some friends also produce their own beer, which they sell in hotels.
Upon arriving in Marica, we realized that his project would take several years to complete, as the construction of the second floor is not as stable as hoped and was destroyed by a storm some time ago. Yam had a lot of work to do and invited many friends and other Workawayers to come to him. In the end, there were nine of us who spent fun music and card game nights together.
The maximum working time was limited to 3 hours a day, and the rest of the time was free. One day we had to do gardening, on another day we helped with bottling beer. One day we had to continue working on the mud house. All in all, it was a very varied and exciting week.
Thank you Yam, Babeo, Seba, Maria, Nina, Violetta, and Georga.
Best regards, Egger Girls
