Today after breakfast and cleaning the guest house, Lazyday was on the agenda. That means Cassandra and I had a day off and we could take a trip to Hvammstangi with Magnus' Land Rover. This car is really something, if anyone ever says that my car is dirty... they haven't seen Magnus' car - but it got us there and back in one piece. I must say though, it drives like a tractor or a truck. In Hvammstangi, there was a tournament taking place today and we also visited it. Very nice location, a beautiful oval track and a great meadow to sit and watch. In addition to the children's lead rein class, we saw a lot of great horses, some with a lot of spirit, others more calm - although I have to say, the calmer ones here would be considered lively in Germany... it was a four-gait competition and the gallop part was also interesting - once the horses started galloping and were on the long side, they sped up so much that I thought they would just keep galloping straight. But everyone managed to turn the corner, in the true sense of the word. It was also really interesting to see the different riding styles used. The younger riders are comparable to how we ride in Germany, the older ones have very little to do with it... After that, we went around Hvammstangi and bought a few little things, as well as had a nice double espresso in an absolutely cute cafe. It was a completely successful trip.
