Our first stop today was very close to our accommodation (de Leeuwenhof Estate) at the Afrikaans Language Monument, which was built in honor of the Afrikaans language. It sits on a hill (national park) on the outskirts of Paarl (450,000 inhabitants).
After that, we visited the KWV cellar, which is one of the largest cellars in the Greater Cape Town area (16 million liters of wine, 6 million liters of brandy and a little bit of port and gin). During the tour of the premises, we learned a lot and were amazed at times. The largest storage barrel for port wine (built in the 1940s) holds about 202,000 liters (if you consume one liter of port per day, it will take about 700 years to empty).
We will also be staying at the de Leeuwenhof Estate tonight, as the kitchen will be open today as well.
