Mombasa - Visit from home

Tihchhuah a ni: 16.11.2023

After our unforgettable safari, we boarded the train from Nairobi to Mombasa on Monday last week. The train ride was super pleasant and Deutsche Bahn can learn a lot! During our six-hour journey from Nairobi to Mombasa, the train was regularly mopped and the toilets cleaned. There was also good service and both departure and arrival were on time. You should only allow more time for getting to the train, as the security checks are very complex. In total, the luggage was screened three times and checked by drug and explosives dogs. Here we had to pay a bribe for the first time since the beginning of our trip around the world - our pocket knife was not allowed on the train.

When we arrived in Mombasa, our pick-up was already waiting for us, which took us to our accommodation on Diani Beach. Here we rented a small villa with two bedrooms, two bathrooms and a pool through Airbnb. Dieter prevailed during the planning and decided that we should book the villa including a chef. This meant our stay was like an all-round carefree package. In addition to our cook, Hamisi, who prepared us great breakfasts every day and African specialties for dinner, there was Irene, the housekeeper, who cleaned our rooms every day and did our laundry. In addition, there was a gardener who cleaned the pool every day and put fresh beach towels on the sun loungers for us.

We mainly spent the nine days in our villa at the pool and on the beach. We always went to the Pallet Cafe on the beach. It was a bit out of the way and very quiet. The special thing about this cafe is that deaf people cook and serve here. To make communication easier for both sides, simple signs are shown on the menu. We also took a trip to a local market with Hamisi. There, Andrea and Madlin were bought African dresses by Dieter. On another day, the four of us went out again to buy souvenirs and local fruit and vegetables. Afterwards, Dieter and Andrea drove a TukTuk for the first time in their lives and had a lot of fun.

The time together passed in no time and tomorrow the two of them are flying back home.
