Since my spontaneous idea of taking a bus to China didn't materialize, I returned to my original plan of heading east and set off towards Khorgas. On the way there, I visited the Charyn Canyon. Although the canyon is promoted as an attraction everywhere, it didn't seem that overwhelming to me. I originally planned to camp there, but that seems no longer possible. Additionally, access to the canyon itself also appears to be blocked now. Afterwards, I continued on to Khorgas. Khorgas is already in China, so I settled for viewing the whole thing from the Kazakh side. Essentially, it seems to serve as a transshipment point for goods from China. After some difficulties finding accommodation, I eventually ended up in Zharkent. From here, I plan to head to the Altyn Emel National Park tomorrow.
