Cappadocia

Verëffentlecht: 17.06.2023

That was a short tour of only 96 km. But I didn't want to miss out on this area. Cappadocia is known for its amazing rock formations and many caves. I think the photos speak for themselves and don't need any further explanation.

My accommodation was a cave hotel. All rooms were carved into the mountainside and connected by a labyrinth of stairs.

After a sightseeing tour of the city, I got a little hungry, so I went back to the hotel and went to the restaurant.

Dinner was cooked in a sealed clay pot, which was cracked open at the table and served with delicious food. It was a kind of stew, served with salad, olives, and the typical bread.

Sleeping in a cave is very comfortable. Absolute darkness, absolute silence.

In the morning, I went to the restaurant for breakfast, a very rich buffet. Although maybe they shouldn't set up the buffet right next to the entrance door.

I watched from my seat as a cat sat in front of the door at first, then got braver and came closer to the buffet. And then two jumps, the cat on the counter, me towards the cat. She still managed to steal a piece of cheese before fleeing from me 😅

Even the most beautiful breakfast eventually comes to an end, I had already packed the motorcycle. And off we went towards Afyonkarahisar. First, we drove a few kilometers on a road that was similar to a highway. Here, you could let the motorcycle run to cover some distance. Radar controls are always announced here with signs, which was also the case here, warning cones were set up next to the sign "Traffic Control Radar". Alright, let's ease off the throttle a bit. 110 km/h is allowed.

You can always recognize the civilian vehicles from which laser guns are used quite well, they like to stand on the shoulder of the road facing against the direction of travel. Same here, but I wasn't going too fast. However, as I passed by, I saw the officer talking into his radio, checked the speedometer again, no, I'm not going too fast. Still had an uneasy feeling though.

A short time later, the road was narrowed down to one lane with cones, and as I approached, a police officer stepped onto the road and signaled for me to pull over, directing me to another officer. The usual, passport, driver's license, vehicle papers. And then he informed me that I was 7 km/h over the speed limit. The 110 km/h only applies to cars, motorcycles are only allowed to go 100 km/h 😬 7 km/h over corresponds to a fine of €36🫣.

That's bearable, but it still annoyed me a lot.

For the last 300 km to the hotel, I tried to stick to the speed limits, which is actually a obstruction to traffic.
