Dont fck with ancient gods

Verëffentlecht: 08.03.2024

Hello hello, my now no-know how many day in a row full of adventures. Today we took a trip to the ATM cave near San Ignacio and holy moly, that was really adventurous in the truest sense. After a while on the roads, we finally turned onto this gravel road and continued on it for about half an hour. At the starting point the group was divided into small groups of 8 people each, although I was a bit pissed because Chelsea and I were supposed to go separately even though we had booked together. Which I still didn't think was great, but the cave made it easy for me to think about something else. After about 35 minutes of walking through the forest, including three river crossings (yes with ice cold and yes with water up to my shoulders) we found ourselves at the cave entrance. We had to leave everything behind on the car except the helmet and helmet lamp. That was then turned on and then we swam into the cave until we could walk on the stones again and then we basically swam through the cave for an hour, climbing and crawling, looking at the rock formations until we were in the altar cave arrived. There were remnants of the last Maya lying around everywhere, such as jars and pots, fireplaces and, oh yes, the remains of human sacrifices. It was really cool to see, and I noticed that this choice of words, offering, is sometimes used in a very interesting way. It's only murder when you throw someone else in there, but with your own child it's no big deal, it's yours. (:

By the way, it was incredibly cold in this cave, especially because the clothes were absolutely soaked. On the way there I went forward and then went a little bit into the darkness, which was exciting :D The way back was also surprising because the water level was higher and the current was much stronger. This meant that we now had to swim some passages and in some of them we made extremely slow progress (narrow, full of water). And anyone who ever heard me freaking out about that stupid cave movie that traumatized me for years, yes, I thought about it extremely often, especially when the way back was suddenly full of water. But everything went smoothly, everyone got out, nothing potentially very old was upset or woken up, and I even got something to eat back at the parking lot :D Everyone was super exhausted, we had rum punch and then we set off on the route back again. One pair of socks didn't survive. That was probably my offering.
