I spontaneously spent the Halloween weekend with a friend in Madrid! We had INCREDIBLE 37 degrees in the sun, up to 28 degrees in the shade.... AT THE END OF OCTOBER!!! It was so warm that we decided one day to rent a car and drive to a lake outside Madrid. Unfortunately, you can only rent cars from the age of 21 so it didn't work out (we are 19&20).
In order to get through as cheaply as possible and to take full advantage of Madrid by having quick and good contact with a local, we decided to try it out on the platform couchsurfing.com and there you have it: we found a very helpful host who let us stay with him for free and even offered to feed us if we wanted! He even took us with his friends to his favorite bar district in the city 'La Latina'.
Conclusion about Madrid:
- The people are so nice and helpful that I call them the European Canada!
- You can only rent cars from the age of 21.
- The neighborhoods 'La Latina' and 'Manasala' are perfect for bar hopping.
- The park 'Retiro' is very suitable for jogging, skating, cycling, doing fitness or simply relaxing, especially at sunset.
- If you take a bus to the center, you can walk in any direction and keep walking and walking. There are endless shopping streets with bars, cafes, and restaurants. You won't be disappointed:)
