17th May/48th day: Le Cergne - Noailly

Dɛn dɔn pablish am: 18.05.2019

Rain is forecasted, with 33 km being long again and from an altitude of 800 m down to 300 m. The beautiful Lowa hiking shoes are already worth their price.

From Charlieu onwards, I can expect monasteries and medieval towns again. Nature alone has been enough for a slow pace.

Supplies are replenished in a shop, then the day can be long.

Charlieu offers many medieval houses and a monastery complex, which suffered greatly once again due to the French Revolution.

The pilgrims have been crossing this bridge since the Middle Ages:

But still on the way, there is the monastery complex of La-Bénisson-Dieu, which was completely destroyed except for the church nave. This monastery was founded as a Cistercian monastery in 1138 and goes back to Bernard of Clairvaux.

Quite exhausted, I start planning the next stages in the evening.
Summary up to today: 1287 km completed, still 1740 km to Santiago de Compostella. That's now over 3000 km in total, I didn't expect that in advance.
In a few days, I will (hopefully) be in Le Puy-de-Velay, then it will be about halfway.
