After a leisurely start on Saturday morning (June 17, 2017), we continued our journey south along the Vltava Valley. According to the signs, we had about 9km to go. After about 2.5km, we were faced with a closed gate. The trail markings were not clear (there was a trail mark before a fork in the road, but none after), so I decided to take the path with less incline. We had to turn around and walk about a kilometer back. So, now we had to leave the valley and climb up the adjacent hills. A cool breeze provided some relief and made the effort bearable. After about 7km, we reached Dvůr Metlice, time for a little snack.
A short while later, we set off again, but soon had to take a forced break. The sole of my left hiking shoe had come loose and needed to be temporarily fastened. The mishap was foreseeable, as I had been walking with partially loose soles for almost 14 days. Unfortunately, I had not been able to find a cobbler so far, but now I have to intensify the search. After a total of 3 hours of walking and nearly 600 meters of elevation gain, we reached our destination, Rosenberg. As there isn't much here apart from the castle and a tiny village, I am tempted to add another 10km to Višší Brod, but reason prevails and we set up camp along the Vltava in the early afternoon after a short walk around.
