We start along the South Thompson River on the north side - away from the highway, gravel road with all-wheel drive 😅 We would have liked to stay longer with Sandra and John... We are in touch with their brother Dave on Facebook for more tips.
We pass by cattle, horses, and sheep. The visibility is rather hazy today, but still warm.
We pass Little Shuswap and stop at the Chase Creek Falls, unfortunately we do not see 'Chewy, the local marmot'. 🤷♂️🤷♀️
Meanwhile, we are on Highway 1 (Trans Canada) heading towards Shuswap Lake, stopping at Blind Bay (Pebble Bay). At times, the sun peeks out here too. It is still well over 20°C.
On our way eastward, we find online the 'Meadows in the Sky Parkway' within the Revelstoke National Park, 26km uphill to a viewpoint. That's where we want to go for a lunch break 😊 We still have some of our super delicious microwave meal left. (John and Sandra had asked yesterday if we had ordered the food 😅😅😅). Melly sleeps a bit on the way since the hum of the refrigerator in the room kept her awake last night.
'Meadows' is unfortunately very crowded when we arrive... traffic jam at the lower entrance. We decide to postpone this visit for a few days on our way back. Hopefully the visibility will be better then.
Instead, we continue to the Bear Creek Falls, a heavily spraying waterfall that refreshes us well 😅 and we encounter some frogs on the 15-minute walk between the parking lot and the waterfall.
Then the explanation from our next AirBnB host: It is not hazy, but smoke from the wildfires because the wind has turned. A shame for the view... Tomorrow it is supposed to rain and even thunder. We are a bit worried about our rafting trip tomorrow...🫣
We reach Golden: A small wooden wagon, without electricity, no running water, but super idyllic. Luckily, we already 'practiced' in a tiny house in Mühlenbarbek for 3 nights in October 😅
We have a cooler with frozen water for cooling and a propane stove. The most modern thing here is the Wi-Fi connection. Unfortunately, there are many mosquitoes, but we have protection 💪
We go back into town and buy our dinner on Sunday (!) : Steak for Benny, mini potatoes for the grill for Melly 😊 In front of the wagon is a small gas grill that we use right away.
Meanwhile, we can already hear the first thunderstorms passing by us.
We are excited about tomorrow. Buffalo tour and rafting is planned. So fingers crossed that both can take place 😇
