The dancing was so much fun that I went out again on my last night in Tamarindo. Dance bear. It wasn't as crowded, but people already knew each other from sight and greeted me. At some point, a man my age approached me (the audience is consistently half as old). He said he was the owner of the Pacifico Club and wanted to introduce me to his wife?!? She thinks it's great how I dance. Ah, OK. Done and done. What followed was an unparalleled shower of praise. They have had the club for 15 years, but have never had a guest who can dance so well and apparently has so much fun doing it. I was stunned. I turned around and thanked them for the opportunity to dance at all. Officially, dance events are not allowed again until March 7th. The two were really great. Great people. The next day, a group of girls approached me at breakfast. They really want to take a picture with me to show their friends that you don't just drink and stand around on the dance floor. I got my first groupies.
The people at the hotel are great too. Some are German, Swiss, or Costa Rican. I was able to give back some praise. The drive to Monteverde initially went on very good roads. I had chosen a slightly longer route. After Tilarán it got greener and the potholes in the asphalt returned. The area is beautiful. Steep, green hills, dairy farming. Everything seems very tidy. And then the rainforest comes. Drizzling rain, but warm. The Arco Iris Lodge hotel is just rustic. I have my own mini cottage (10m2). Made everything clear at the reception for the next day. 3 hours with the ranger and then a hike to the watershed (La Ventura). On a clear day, you can see the Pacific and the Atlantic from this spot.
And then it turned out differently. Dinner was delicious. My first steak in Costa Rica. 3 hours later, I had stomach cramps, chills, and diarrhea. Was the garlic pesto to blame? Do I have Covid now? Doesn't matter, can't give up now. My energy level is in the basement. Cola and bananas, that helps. Luckily I had something in stock. Imodium? Better not, get rid of everything that doesn't pay rent. Yesterday was shitty. I let the hotel know. First, cancel everything. What's next?
Booking rooms online is a great thing. I extended my stay here for 2 days from my cottage and canceled La Fortuna completely. That's how it is, Pura Vida. And today?
I'm feeling better. Had breakfast with melon, a little rice and beans, 2 toasts, fruit tea, and a rainbow. Tonight, I will decide whether to do the ranger tour tomorrow at least. Otherwise, take it easy, enjoy the view, read, and get back on my feet.
What am I grateful for today? Having cola and bananas in stock.
I'm looking forward to what's coming.
