On the way from Hué to Hoi An, we crossed the Hoi Van Pass in beautiful weather. The pass used to be the border between North and South Vietnam. The old gate still stands at the top. From the pass road, you have a great view of the sea, and when going down, you can see the impressive coastal city of Da Lat.
Hoi An was recommended to us by almost every backpacker we spoke to. The city is located on a small river with many small bars and restaurants. In the evening, everything is illuminated with colorful lanterns, creating a cozy atmosphere. Hanoi reminded us a little bit of Melaka in Malaysia.
Hoi An is also known for its many leather, shoe, and suit shops. The clothes are always custom-made according to the customer's wishes and at a quarter of the price you would pay in Switzerland. Of course, we couldn't resist having some leather items made.
The next major destination is Ninhvana Backpackers, located 500 kilometers to the south. We estimate it will take about 3 days to get there.
