For the year 2016, I had a thought: Why not give my mother a vacation? She really deserved it and hadn't been traveling much in her life. So I decided to turn the thought into action and took care of getting as many friends and relatives as possible to join in so we could gather enough money. The plan succeeded, my mother was thrilled with her amazing gift, and so we booked a week in Crete for June. My mother wanted All-Inclusive, so she got All-Inclusive. Which turned out to be better in the end, because unfortunately I suffered a knee injury 2 months before our vacation and wasn't very mobile.
Off to Crete!
In June, we were ready to go and I left Luke at home for a week to fly on vacation with my mother. He kindly drove us to Frankfurt Airport, where we flew with Condor to Heraklion. Condor is not exactly known for outstanding service. There is neither food nor drinks available. Actually, it's unacceptable considering the flight time of about 3 hours without even a drink! Nevertheless, we slowly approached the destination and prepared for landing.
Arrival
Arriving at the airport, we bought some drinks before we died of thirst before reaching our actual destination :D Then we went to the baggage claim area and outside, the bus was already waiting to take us to our hotel in Skaleta. We were welcomed by the sun and pleasant warmth. That's the way it should be! Skaleta is not that far away, but unfortunately, we were the last ones to be dropped off at the hotel, so we had to wait until all the other vacationers were taken to their hotels. The ride took forever. Finally, we arrived at Hotel Creta Star.
Full of anticipation of finally having arrived and seeing the sea again, we first checked into our room. Then we inspected the hotel complex where we would spend the coming week. The beach was not far away, we could already see the sea from the path. The complex looked quite pretty so far. Of course, there was also a pool. Unfortunately, it was a saltwater pool. And the water was so cold!
