Dear travel diary

Friday, July 16, 2021

Originally, a day at the beach was on the agenda, but during breakfast we agreed on a cozy day at home.

So I lay tired back in bed, motivated myself for a short computer work and then back again. In the afternoon, I even slept for another two hours.

Only in the evening we walked a whole 100 meters to the rooftop terrace to have an aperitif and then cook dinner. For dinner, we watched a movie after a long time, which we later moved to our bed.

After a few days of server problems on my blog, I finally managed to upload a new blog. I was afraid that it would never work again and that I had lost everything. But fortunately, everything worked and I happened to see that my blog is apparently ranked 6th in the best blogs of 2021. Wow, if that's not a good blog ;)

Until lunchtime, we spent our time in our Airbnb. But after lunch, we ordered an Uber and went to Secret Cove Beach. As soon as we got in, the driver asked us if we live here or if we are locals. Confused, we said no, even though we have been in Hawaii for a long time.

When we arrived at the small bay, we found a spot in the soft sand where you sink really deep. Next to us were two Hawaiian families with two children each, and I instantly fell in love with all of them. It was fascinating to see how these children interacted with the ocean. Somehow completely familiar and natural, and yet impressed by every wave.

Since the weather was a bit cloudy and partly rainy, we only ventured into the water briefly. In addition, getting into the water was not easy because the waves were not exactly small. But due to the clouds, the temperature was pleasant and we could relax comfortably.

Before it closed completely, we ordered an Uber back and patiently waited on the side of the road. Suddenly, a car stopped and asked us if we wanted a ride. Unfortunately, our Uber was already almost with us, so we couldn't cancel the ride and accept the offer.

This Uber driver, who recognized me from last week when I went to pick up the car with Domi, also asked at first if we were locals. He said not many know about this beach and wanted to know how we found out about it. Good connections from school seem to be the right answer here.

Back home, we showered and slowly got ready for the evening. Chantal had agreed to have dinner with Hana (they were in the same class). She and her four other colleagues happened to be in Maui this weekend. The plan was to meet at 6:30 PM at the restaurant, but since Chantal and I were already very hungry at 5:00 PM, we left earlier so that we could possibly share a small appetizer.

When we arrived at Nutcharee's Authentic, a Thai restaurant, we had to wait for a long time until our table was ready, and just as we were about to go in, the others arrived.

It was an interesting group: Hana from Japan, Aline, Chantal and me from Switzerland, Helena from Germany, Max from Korea, and Elise from Ohio.

After a cozy meal, we said goodbye again and took an Uber back to Wailea. Once again, it was an entertaining Uber driver who asked for tips for Oahu and showed us a Tiktok account of a young man from Kauai when we told her that we were going to Kauai on Monday. It was a funny and great ride.

When we arrived in the room, I was so tired that it was almost impossible for me to put on my pajamas. As soon as I finally managed to do it, I immediately went to sleep and was already asleep within five minutes.

Today was laundry and packing day. So after breakfast, we washed our clothes and ate the last few things in our fridge.

In the afternoon, I packed the things that were already possible and watched some Netflix, and suddenly I was overcome by tiredness again and fell asleep for a few minutes.

In the evening, we dressed up because we planned to go to a nice restaurant to enjoy our last evening in Maui. We walked about 20 minutes along the busy road to the restaurant Monkeypod Kitchen. There, we registered for a table, but had to wait for 1:30 to 1:45 hours. So we first sat at the bar in another restaurant and had a special Moscow Mule. We waited there until about 7:00 PM and then went back to the restaurant, where we waited again.

Finally, the relieving SMS came, our table was ready.

The food was excellent. Also our service, Jesse, who joked with us and made it a great evening.
