The brand new Iwanoswki travel guide from January 2018 is a slightly more expensive purchase, but it is necessary. It was already included in the first trip to southern Africa with Rotel-Reisen. It's nice that there is now a current updated edition only for South Africa, I suppose there have been some changes in the content since then...
For Cape Town itself and the surrounding area, we decided to get an additional guide that specifically covers this region.
Printed maps are still very nice, despite all the digital options available. It's possible that the battery could die, the app could break, or some other higher power could destroy our prepared Google Offline maps and MapsMe files. It's good to have road maps with you (and be able to read them...).
Last year, the bestseller 'Fettnäpfchen-Führer South Africa' was a gift from a dear friend. I'm currently reading it to get in the mood - it's really funny, the mix between a light/seaside novel and background knowledge is great.
And finally - so that Zoe always knows which animal she is capturing on camera or being attacked by - there is also the animal guide for reference. Let's see if it becomes educational for all of us...
