For the trip to Lorne we planned to take the ferry to enjoy the view from the sea to the land. Luckily, when we tried to book tickets online, we saw a notice that the ferry was currently out of service - it would have been quite a detour to find out about it on site.

So we went more or less overland. With all the speed limits that everyone pretty much adheres to - we asked ourselves why we have a car that, according to the speedometer, could drive 300 km/h, but you can't use the horsepower and speed - like most other cars not.

We drive from Cowes to Lorn - including breaks - for 4-5 hours and look at the sensational landscape. We pass through many small towns and see that the 1-2 storey construction method is the preferred one and there is a lot of green pastureland (reminds me a bit of the area around Grünenplan in Lower Saxony). The insight into the Great Ocean Road that this first trip shows us makes us look forward to the rest of the route.

This was our first day of pure driving. Our accommodation in chilly Lorn is more like a maternity recovery home. Very winding - you have to take paths that make you feel like you're halfway back to Melbourne. Because there is no elevator, we have to carry our luggage ourselves and Karin complains that we could have spent the night in the car. - Luckily she booked this accommodation herself (sweat, grin).

In our room we open the window and presto, a cockatoo - of which there are a lot here - thinks it has to visit us.

We end the day with a nice walk on the beach with beautiful waves.
