Actually it wasn't that far (380km), but due to the many construction sites, the drive to Nizhny Novgorod took quite a while. We had a longer lunch break in Cheboksary. This city, whose name is hard to remember, is the capital of the Chuvash Republic in Russia. Never heard of it before. Unlike the cities we've seen recently, this place seems a few decades behind. At least some Volga river cruise ships were anchored here.
In Nizhny Novgorod, we quickly went to a Georgian restaurant for dinner. Really delicious. In the restaurant, we had the chance to meet the family of an employee from the travel agency. These meetings are well-intentioned in terms of "intercultural understanding". Unfortunately, it doesn't really work out in practice. You almost pity these poor people. So far, they seemed surrounded by a horde of tourists who just want to eat and don't speak their language, like they're being shown off.
We're staying at the Hilton. Sightseeing tour is scheduled for tomorrow.
