The park has 83 individual caves, including the deepest known limestone cave in the USA at a depth of 487 meters below the surface. The cave is well developed and we were able to travel along the main paths with a wheelchair. First, you take an elevator down (you can also walk without a wheelchair) and then you can take a guided tour or explore on your own. We went on our own and Torben and Mia explored some side paths that were not accessible by wheelchair...
The caves also house around one million Mexican free-tailed bats, which hang in a side cave called the Bat Cave during the day in summer and go out in search of food after dark. Since we were there in winter, we did not see any bats.
In the evening, we couldn't find a camping spot because the one we wanted was already full, so we spent the night at a gas station truck stop and left early the next morning for the sunrise...
