The day started with a liberation! FINALLY! "Where is a kiwi plantation here?"... all day, for two weeks... The woman could not be calmed down, went to bed in the evening with tears and got up in the morning with tears. Today, finally...on the way to Takaka and Wharariki Bay we came across a plantation where kiwis grow. Now the dear soul and I finally have peace 😎!
Speaking of Takaka: all dropouts and friends of the vintage motorcycle “Indian” seem to meet here. What absolutely awesome machines...still with stick shifting. The drivers were at least as old as the carts.
The highlight of the day: the hike to Wharariki Beach, across meadows, pastures and dunes... to where Mr. Windows lives. The apple friends can't understand the sparkle in my eyes - I was at the place where the most famous start screen photo for Windows was taken. For DOS fans, this is like the zebra crossing where the Beatles crossed the street...somewhere, London, Abbey Road.
And to make the postcard look perfect, a seal crawls out of the ocean, looks us in the eyes and crawls back again. How crazy is that? It's probably because of my aura...child calls me Dr. in awe. Doolittle Pitti.
Tomorrow we'll continue to Greymouth...I'm excited to see what this old mining town has to offer...in any case, it'll probably get cooler the further south we go.
