JÖKULSARLON and DIAMOND BEACH

Coming from SKAFTAFELL National Park on Route 1 towards the east.

Be sure to visit each individual glacial tongue with its respective lagoon. Each one is a true enrichment and visual delight. Each lagoon harbors different iceberg formations and bird species. The views of the glaciers behind could not be more different and always offer a WOW effect.

An absolute highlight is the JOKULSARLON Lagoon with the BREIDAMERKURJÖKULL Glacier behind it, connected to the river that flows into the sea at DIAMOND BEACH.

The atmosphere here is simply beautiful and totally relaxing. In good weather, it is an absolute hotspot to have a picnic in the sun on the lava beach. The icebergs constantly break apart right before your eyes with a loud crash, only to be transported to the sea by the rushing river below the bridge. A spectacular sight!

I saw various seals swimming upstream into the lagoon, skillfully maneuvering around the drifting icebergs to reach the delicious fish in the lagoon.

As described in the pictures, you can skip the offered amphibious vehicle tour of the lagoon. It drives around the lagoon for 45 minutes, circles a few icebergs, and then the excursion is over.

The main attraction is in front of, or below, the bridge. Just park, take a 5-minute walk to the bridge or Diamond Beach, and have fun!

And that's what I wish you while looking at the pictures, or for your upcoming trip to Iceland!
