On Sunday, we slept in a bit and headed to 'Sail Rock'. The big boulder on the coast of Kenting was impressive. We spent the rest of the day swimming and surfing at the beach.
As the picture shows, we had a little incident. I actually managed to break a surf board in these relatively small waves. The board rental owner demanded 3,500 TWD (about CHF 110.00) as compensation, which was clearly too much for what seemed like an ancient board. A local advised me to call the local police to negotiate the price. After hesitating for a moment, I called the police and tried to negotiate a lower price. Of course, as a tourist and without any knowledge of Chinese, I was at a disadvantage. At the beginning, it seemed like all our efforts were in vain as the rental owner wouldn't budge. In the end, we agreed on 2,000 TWD, which is still way too much in my opinion. It was an expensive but somehow exciting experience.
At around 4:30 p.m., we started our journey back home with the Kenting Express Bus, which brought us to Kaohsiung. From there, we took the high-speed train to Taichung. The journey only took 42 minutes, while the regular train would have taken more than 2 hours for the same distance. After this amazing trip, I was pretty tired and slept better than ever in my new home.
