Today we leave the Northland. We drive through Auckland again and the view of the skyline in the sunshine is incredibly impressive.
We leave the city center behind and head to a swimming pool located in a southern suburb of Auckland. Admission is free and we can't miss the chance for a free hot shower. Today, the cold has a tight grip on me and because Alex's tattoo is still fresh, we both actually only take a shower and do not use the swimming pool. Freshly cleaned, we go shopping. Somehow, there's always something you need every day, even if it's just a snack from the bakery department. But we haven't had supermarkets for the past 4 months, and those who know me know that I not only love shopping for clothes, but also love supermarkets, especially the ones abroad! On our way, we pass the Auckland Botanic Gardens and stop to take a look at the relatively boring (it's more like a large lawn area used for picnics in this amazing weather) garden. We quickly see everything and head to our next overnight spot.
This one is again located at a boat ramp right by the water. On the other side of the bay, you can already see the Coromandel Peninsula which we plan to explore in the next few days. The tides here are as impressive as in the Wadden Sea and we walk 20 meters towards the water on the seabed.
For lunch, we get the "national dish" of New Zealand for the first time from a nearby takeaway: Fish and Chips. The place is busy on a Sunday afternoon and it takes quite a while until we get our huge portion.
We wait outside in the sun and then collect our package for an unbeatable $11 (€6). We carry our loot back to the camper. Outside in the warmth, we enjoy the incredibly delicious fish and chips.
Feeling energized, we spend the next few hours working on the blog entries with high concentration. Without electricity and Wi-Fi, we unfortunately have even less time to update our online diary. In the evening, after the big lunch, we only have a small snack and then go to bed early (boring as always, there's not much happening for us after nightfall except for a few rounds of Yahtzee, listening to the Harry Potter audiobook, reading, and watching Scrubs).
