Posting signs of life again! :-)

It's been almost two months since I last wrote, it's slowly time again! In my defense: I didn't have WiFi on the road and certainly no time to write! ;-)

After quitting my job, I went back to Darwin. Since I don't have a car myself, but really wanted to see the West Coast of Australia, I looked for people with a car and the same plans as mine. Andy, a 28-year-old Englishman, responded to my ad at the hostel. The chemistry was right and so the perfect travel companion was found.

We started in Darwin on September 13, 2017. Andy was joined by Laurin and Nico, two guys from Germany. In the first two days, my colleague Pauline also accompanied us.

After splashing around in Litchfield National Park for a day, we continued to Katherine, about three hours away from Darwin. Here's a beautiful gorge, the 'Katherine Gorge.' We floated along the gorge in a canoe, which was really nice! We would jump into the water from time to time to cool off. The water only had freshwater crocodiles, which only grow to about 2-4 meters and are hardly dangerous to humans. :-)

After saying goodbye to Pauline, we continued to Lake Argyle. Here we met with Nico's cousin, Janine, and her friend Liessa. Just like on the East Coast, we mainly stayed in (free) campsites.

The Purnululu National Park wasn't on the way, but we gladly took a (huge) detour for this beautiful piece of nature. The park with its famous 'Bungle Bungles' is part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. The road there is quite bumpy and there are a few smaller rivers to cross. Since Janine and Andy both have 4WD cars, it was not a problem. We hiked a few kilometers in the Bungle Bungles and visited the highlights - a few viewpoints and the beautiful 'Cathedral Gorge,'

At night, we could hear the dingoes howling very close to the campsite. They don't really harm humans, but it was a bit creepy... It had a bit of a horror movie vibe, before the bloodthirsty beasts devour the poor people in their tents! Fortunately, I wasn't the only one feeling that way. During breakfast, the guys admitted that they were also quite scared! :-)
