Weird society.

Once again, just like in Istanbul, you only realize the beauty of a city when you venture off the beaten path. When you're on foot, you're usually limited and focused on tourist attractions. But when you're on two wheels, you get to see the other 'corners' of the city.

Zagreb was quickly left behind. No endless industrial areas, as is often the case. Suddenly, you're driving through a forest, a few houses, and then it's uphill. Countless hairpin turns on this one-way mountain road. Once you reach the top, you have a fantastic view of the city. There's also a cable car that goes from the city up here.

On the other side, I entered the Croatian mountain world. Slovenia was quickly reached, a quick border control and off I went.

The Slovenian roads, even the smallest ones, were very well built. I made good progress on narrow mountain roads and before I knew it, I was already at the Austrian border. This is where the Schengen Area starts again. No more border controls.

Austria, finally a language and currency that I understand, even though in Slovenia they also use €.

At first, the weather was still very nice, but the further I went into the Alps, the more cloudy it became and it seemed like it would rain soon. Since it was already late and it was getting quite cold with 10 degrees, I checked into a hotel in the village of Obertauern. Obertauern is actually a winter sports resort. In summer and without snow, I find these places quite ugly, boring, and desolate. But the hotel was quite appealing, advertised as a biker hotel. And with half board, it was quite affordable for this area.

The audience that was present here this evening, well, I'm not quite sure if it was an excursion by a swingers club or a conference of, how shall I describe it, pimps and their attendants.

In any case, I quickly retreated to my room after dinner.

Tomorrow I'll continue on to Lake Königssee, where I'll probably camp for a few days.
