Today we went on a tour to the Great Ocean Road. We visited the Twelve Apostles, Apollo Bay (one of the most beautiful beaches in Australia), and other stops. At the last stop for dinner, we were able to admire a koala and feed birds. I was particularly popular as a landing spot, as two koalas came to me at the same time. Overall, it was a really great day so far!
Then we had problems with the bus. The engine overheated. After a dangerous U-turn on the road, which had already annoyed some people on the bus, we returned to the cafe we had been to earlier. We had lost the water for cooling. It was refilled there. Of course, we lost it again on the next few kilometers. Why should it stay in now if it had already leaked out before?
The bus driver, also known as the tour guide, tried to repair the valves and hoses and filled water from cans. Again, after a few meters, the water was gone. The headquarters explicitly instructed us to try these steps first. Finally, after this long back and forth, a replacement bus was finally approved. However, we were still 2.5 hours away from Melbourne. The bus was scheduled to arrive at 1am. We were supposed to be back by 9:30pm.
On the one hand, I was relieved that I would still be able to catch the morning flight, but then we had to wait for hours. Shortly after 1am, we boarded the new bus. We arrived in Melbourne at 3:45am with a delay of 6.25 hours. Great, just in time to pack, brush our teeth, and take a shower. Then we headed back to the airport without having slept.
