A last trip was planned for the pre-Christmas season, this time not with the family, but more or less alone. Less, because there was always someone with us. Anyway, this time we went (again) to Vancouver and from there to Bowen Island, which is about 20 minutes by ferry from North Vancouver.
That's where my organization is based and they invited us over for the 1st weekend of Advent.
But on Friday, 01.12., we first went to Vancouver, this time with the ISP. We all went to FlyOverCanada together, which is a must-see when you're in Vancouver. After that, we just went shopping, eating, and walking around the city. On the way back, the 7 Germans didn't take the ferry back to Nanaimo, but to Bowen Island. It was easy because it was the same terminal. In Bowen, we were picked up by Kanadaplus (my organization, which consists basically of a family, I don't want to mention them by name...). We ended the evening with soup, games, and exchanging experiences.
On Saturday, after breakfast (the classic German one), we went back to the mainland, so back to the ferry. From Horshoe Bay (the ferry terminal in North Vancouver), we drove by car to a suspension bridge. We walked around, took photos, and froze. Why did it have to rain the whole weekend? From there, we drove to Vancouver Downtown and went to the Christmas market, which I mentioned in the last post. A friend and I indulged in the delicious stands. From then on, we had free time and just went into the city to hunt for souvenirs. In the late afternoon, we met again with the others and took the bus to Horshoebay, where we took the ferry again. In the evening, we had a classic German Christmas dinner: duck.
On Sundays, after breakfast, we drove back, ferry from Bowen to Horshoebay, from Horshoebay further to Nanaimo. I think I took more ferries this weekend than in my whole life before. From Nanaimo, we took a regular bus.
Anyway, it was a real German weekend, if you can say so (which is meant in a positive way, of course). In spring, we will probably go to Bowen again, hopefully with better weather ;)
