Day 22 - Raymond Island

Avaldatud: 19.01.2023

1/3 of the journey is done and we are taking a first resume. So far, we have both been particularly impressed by the animals in Australia, especially the animals we have encountered in the wild. We are also impressed by the landscape, the sea, the relaxed people, and the good weather. We are grateful that we have already had so many great moments in Australia and grateful that neither our employers nor the circumstances have stood in our way. Neither the COVID rules in Australia nor a sudden illness could stop our journey. Unfortunately, this is currently not so commonplace.

We start the journey today in Foster and walk through the small town. After a short coffee break, we make our way to the Toora Dog Tree. The tree is located on private property, so we take a few pictures and continue driving.

Our next stop is in Port Albert. The town is quite small and located by the sea. We walk along the harbor there and discover many interesting birds again.

We then make a short stop at Gipsland Lakes Coastal Park and walk over the dunes to the sea.

We continue to the port of Paynesville. There is a ferry that regularly goes to Raymond Island. The ferry is free for pedestrians and cyclists, so we decide to leave the car in Paynesville and walk the Koala Trail on Raymond Island. Raymond Island is a really cute island and the Koala Trail lives up to its promise. We discover sixteen koalas, two of which are still very small. It's a lot of fun to walk through the forest of eucalyptus and look for koalas in the treetops. In the evening, we continue to Bairnsdale, where we check into our motel and have Asian dinner in the evening.
